Alta Christiano

1:54.2 - $309,163. Bay Horse foaled 2009. 15.2 Hands

A sensational Group One winning son of Christian Cullen.

Right from the start he showed he was special the Kindergarten Stakes and returned as a three year old to win the Group One WA Derby in dominant fashion.

In the words of his Hall of Fame trainer Gary Hall:

“For Alta Christiano to win the WA Derby in only his second start for us – and after only eight weeks work – was outstanding. He drew 10, sat outside them and was just too good.

“When he came back as a four-year-old we had nothing else that could go with him in work so we had to work him with Quinny – and Quinny really had to open up and stretch his neck to get past him – and then there wasn’t much in it. There’s not too many horses that could make Quinny go all out - not on a one-on-one basis.”

  • A brilliant two year old, and an even better three year old.
  • Bred to be a stallion being by Christian Cullen from a Fake Left mare and a direct descendant of Black Watch.
  • A simply awesome individual.
  •  “This was a serious horse. If gait, speed, pedigree and temperament make a stallion then he’s got everything” – Trainer, Gary Hall.

Alta Christiano provides a pedigree befitting of his ability.

The first four stallions present in his pedigree were all champion, premiership-winning sires (Christian Cullen, Fake Left, Vance Hanover and Noodlum) but he also boasts the former NZ Broodmare of the Year, Black Watch as his fourth dam.

Christen Me has certainly stamped himself as one of the best pacers in recent times and he is the product of a Christian Cullen mating with a Dream Away mare.

The joining together of the Direct Scooter and Abercrombie blood has resulted in many good horses, both here and in North America and it should also work with Alta Christiano, especially considering he is out of a Fake Left mare.

Look for mares by stallions like Art Major, ArtsplaceGrinfromeartoear, Artiscape, AstreosModern Art, Albert Albert, Life Sign, Dream Away, Pacific Rocket, Fully Loaded, Peace Of Art, Panorama, Fitch II, Crouch, Orange Sovereign etc, to cross well with Alta Christiano.

Being bred on the Direct Scooter / Most Happy Fella / Albatross cross, Alta Christiano sets up beautifully to cross with Artsplace/Abercrombie line mares – proving a resulting pedigree that presents the four great modern day sirelines.

We also feel that mares bred on the cross of an Artsplace/Abercrombie sire over a Most Happy Fella line mare provides the enticing option of not only the above scenario but also the reinforcement of an excellent cross carried by Alta Christiano.

Alta Christiano's sire Christian Cullen has crossed very well with mares by a multitude of different sirelines with perhaps the Falcon Seelster, Albatross and No Nukes lines the most profitable.

However since Alta Christiano is out of a Fake Left mare, he presents the great opportunity to breed a foal with that is sex balanced to the legendary stallion Cam Fella.

This is a very good, developing cross that is found in some very nice horses.

Cam Fella line stallions include Armbro Operative, Bettors Delight, Presidential Ball, Washington VC, Precious Bunny, Four Starzzz Shark, Blissfull Hall, Pacific Fella, Camtastic, Cameleon, Brioso Hanover, Exotic Earl, etc.

The Direct Scooter and Falcon Seelster blood have crossed very well seemingly whichever way you cross them.

So we would definitely recommend Alta Christiano for Falcon Seelster mares or mares by Falcon Seelster line stallions such as McArdle, Elsu, Million To One, Rich And Spoilt, Ultimate Falcon, Trump Casino etc.

Christian Cullen has left good horses out of pretty much every type of Albatross/Albatross line stallion including, but not limited to Soky’s Atom, Holmes Hanover, Vance Hanover, Butler BG, BGs Bunny and Jaguar Spur.

Mares by all those stallions would be suitable for Alta Christiano, with the possible exception of Vance Hanover.

One of the most potent crosses in New Zealand in recent times has been Christian Cullen over Live Or Die mares and we would expect Alta Christiano to have success with this cross as well.

Mares by other No Nukes line stallions should also be a nice match up and they include Safely Kept, Village Jasper, American Ideal, Badlands Hanover, Jereme’s Jet, Dawn Ofa New Day, Caprock, Ticket To Heaven, Barnett Hanover, Union Guy, Kinney Hanover, Northern Lights, etc.

Of course with Alta Christiano being a direct descendant of the mighty mare Black Watch, breeding a mare also from this famous family will result in an exciting Rasmussen cross.

We also believe that one of the reasons for the success of the Direct Scooter line downunder has been mares that possessed some of that brilliant old blood like Tar Heel, Scotland and Volomite.

So any mare that possesses that blood could very well be suited to Alta Christiano.
