Typhoon Hits Shepparton

Glenferrie Typhoon tore up the Shepparton track to win the Group Three George Gath last night.

Firing off the gate, the son of Majestic Son quickly worked his way to the front for Kate Gath.

From there Gath kept the speed constant with the first two quarters cut out in 29.8 and 30 before running his rivals off their feet with final quarters of 28.2 and 28.6.

Stopping the clock at 1:56.2, Glenferrie Typhoon wrote himself into the record books. The time was not only a new track record but also remarkable as no trotter in NZ or Australia has gone quicker at a distance greater than 1720m!

The win would have been especially memorable for trainer Andy Gath given who the race is named after.
