Six Rising Trotting Stars ... And They're All By Majestic Son

Six Rising Trotting Stars ... And They're All By Majestic Son

Ask trotting followers in Australia who the most exciting young trotters in the country are and the answer by many will be the three-year-olds:

  • Majestuoso, and
  • Alpha Male

Ask a similar question in New Zealand and the answer will most likely be:

  • Sundees Son,
  • Majestic Man,
  • Enhance Your Calm, and
  • Oscar Bonavena

Remarkably, these six rising stars are all by the same stallion – Majestic Son.

Proof that you don’t need to pay high service fees and risk the costs and conception rates of frozen semen to have the best shot at breeding a top trotter.

Majestic Son is the 2018/19 champion trotting sire in both New Zealand (as he was also in 2017/18) and Australia (as he was also in the 2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18).

He has sired the winners of over $3.5 million to date in the 2018/19 season – over $1 million more than the second placed stallion.

While it’s always intriguing to look outside the square, sometimes the best answer is sitting right in front of you. That’s certainly the case with Majestic Son. Standing in the flesh, at Alabar.

Majestic Son – fabulous, fresh, fertile and affordable

“He’s got everything … 18 months from now he might be challenging Tornado Valley for the best horse in Oz”

These are the words of trainer Andy Gath after Majestuoso scored an exhilarating last-to-first win in the Victoria Trotters Derby at Maryborough on Sunday.

This victory followed his win in the Holmfield, franking the reputation of the Andy Gath trained trotter and cementing his place in the above top six.

Alpha Male deserves his place as he freakishly destroyed the opposition by 34 metres and 22 metres in the Vicbred (in 1:57.5) and Need For Speed (in 1:56.9) – with both events carrying Group 1 status.

The New Zealand top four also most certainly deserve their places.

Sundees Son ended his four-year-old season with a Group 1 treble in the Rowe Cup, Anzac Cup and NZ Jewels to be the leading stake earning trotter New Zealand, fellow four-year-old Majestic Man won six for the season and was a strong finishing 3rd in the Rowe Cup, Enhance Your Calm won the Group 1 GN Trotting Derby and Oscar Bonavena was unbeaten in his return from injury.

What’s more, you add to these the other Group 1 winners this season in Royal Charlotte (Victoria Trotters Oaks) and Majestic Courtney (Queensland Trotters Cup), Moonshine Linda (Breed For Speed Final), Fremarkspoetry (Vicbred Platinum) and Majestic Son has had a season for the ages.
