The Alabar NSW Breeders Challenge Regional Finals to be contested at the Riverina Paceway at Wagga this Sunday (4th August) are going to be some of the most competitive races to be run since their introduction.
The Form guides are hotting up with some ultra impressive performances in the Heats over the past 4 or 5 days.
Sons and daughters of many of the Alabar stallions have been to the forefront of the action.
Penrith - 25th July
Well it was a James Rattray field day (run at night) with three impressive winners.
JIMARTEE - a Sportswriter 2 year old that is currently riding a 3 win streak for James , with the combined winning margin for those 3 victories of 84 metres.
STAR MAJOR - an Art Major 3 year old from the former outstanding juvenile filly Vertigal. A winning time of 1.56.5 around the tight Penrith circuit would suggest this lad will be in the final up to his eyeballs.
OPERATIVE ANNA - a 2 year old filly by Rock N Roll Heaven from a Presidential Ball mare. The sire is running hot at the moment with a bundle of impressive winners over the past 2 weeks.
Wagga - 26th July
GAME SET MAJOR - NSW trainer Dean Cernovskis looks like he has unearthed a highly promising 3 year old colt with a convincing win in his heat last Friday. A week earlier he had won on debut at Albion Park in 1.53.1 - this time in 1.52.7 with a 54.8 last half.
Cleverly named - by Art Major from Daniela Hantuchova, a mare that won $87,000 for Rikki and Dean Cernovskis, he look set for bigger things than his Mum and half brother Drop The Hammer (who has won over $101,000 since being converted to the trotting gait).
REIGNING PEPPER - this A Rocknroll Dance – Sweet As Reign 3 year old colt could well be one to add plenty of spice to the final with a similarly impressive performance to Game Set Major - a winning mile rate of 1.52.4, last half in 55secs.
AXINITE - Mark Buckingham made the trip up from wine country in Victoria (Rutherglen) a winning one with his 3 year old Roll With Joe gelding. This was his second and successive win in just 7 starts, so the Rutherglen pacer will have plenty of support on finals day from the home town.
Newcastle - 27th July
THE CHOREOGRAPHER - Although a 3 year old gelding, the son of A Rocknroll Dance and Modern Day was having just his 15th start last Saturday night for Hunter Valley trainer Geoff Harding. He is now starting to build a respectable resume with this his third and fastest win to date (1.54.8).
He was a $13,000 purchase from the 2017 Sydney APG Sale from loyal Alabar clients Jeff and Nea Costello from Dubbo.
This win took his earnings well past the purchase price and Geoff will be looking to build on the earnings in the $50,000 final next Sunday.
