IT’S not often a trainer of a mare which has just become a C2 talks about winning features such as the Ladyship Mile.
But that is the case with leading horseman Shane Tritton following Arms Of An Angel’s scintillating victory at Tabcorp Park Menangle yesterday.
Having her second start since crossing the Tasman, Arms Of An Angel led throughout to blitz her rivals, scoring by 18-and-a-half metres from Bonus Spin, with Sports Denial 10-and-a-half metres away third.
If that is not impressive enough, the daughter of Elsu covered the mile in a brilliant 1:50.7 – the third fastest time by a mare in Australasia.
Adore Me holds top spot with her 1:47.7 performance in last season’s Ladyship Mile, with Baby Bling next in line thanks to her 1:50.5 Miracle Mile success in 2013.
Adore Me’s time doubles as the fastest by any standardbred in the Southern Hemisphere.
“She’s only become a C2, so it seems funny talking about the Ladyship Mile, but that’s the way we will be heading with her,” Tritton said. “I said before the race she could run 1:52 on her ear, so the time isn’t a complete surprise.
“The surprise is how easily she did it. On the turn Lauren (Panella, driver) said she dropped the bit so she gave her one hit to keep her mind on the job and she just kept running.
“Lauren didn’t even pull the plugs, and by the time she got back to the stalls, she wouldn’t have blown out a candle.
“She’s still got a lot of learning to do, and it is a long way off, but if all goes to plan we are certainly looking at the Ladyship.
“It is certainly exciting to see how fast and how far she can go.”
