The ranks of the Australasian trotting stallions have received a huge boost with Alabar’s latest acquisition.
Great Success, with a 1:51.4 mark taken in a time trial as a three year
old, will not only be the fastest trotter ever to come to the Southern
Hemisphere, he will be the fastest trotting stallion ever to be
available in this part of the world – including the stallions that are
available via frozen semen.
Great Success competed with distinction against the best in the
business. The highlight of his race career came as a three year old in
winning the Elimination and Final of the $220,000 Matron Stakes at
Dover Downs. On both occasions he downed the high class trotter Prayer
I Am ($607,762).
A flawless trotter, Great Success never made a break in his career. He
trotted 12 miles in sub 1:55, 20 miles in sub 1:56 and 30 of his 32
starts in 1:58.6 or better. Only once did he trot a mile slower than
2:00 – and that was a mile in 2:00.2 when running second as an early
two year old. All told, his record from these 32 starts is six wins and
ten seconds and thirds for $400,341.

the immediate family has already produced the outstanding sires ABC
Freight, Prakas and Lindy’s Pride.
- Great Success is Self Possessed’s second fastest performer and his third richest colt son.

Great Success' oldest progeny will be 2yo's in 2011/2.
Looking through the pedigrees of the top ten performers by Self
Possessed, Super Bowl and Speedy Crown feature strongly amongst the dam
sires.
It would be safe to assume that Super Bowl line stallions should cross well with Great Success. Such stallions include
R Cs Deejay,
Continentalman,
Britewell,
CR Commando and
Malabar Maple.
Great Success already carries six crosses of Speedy Crown, however a
further dose should not be a problem. Cantab Hall is Self Possessed’s
leading siring son and 5 of his top 15 richest earners carry 6 doses of
Speedy Crown, while the great Donato Hanover also has 6 strains of the
legendary sire.

Other stallions to feature as broodmare stallions on Self Possessed’s

In fact perhaps the greatest 2yo trotter of all time in Snow White 2, 1:52.8 is by Self Possessed from a Pine Chip mare. Of course
Sundon is by Arndon, the same sire as Pine Chip. So the Great Success / Sundon cross could become a sensation down here.
Balanced Image has a few sons down under that have done a very good job at stud including
Earl,
Monarchy and
Brylin Boyz. So any mating of Great Success to a mare by one of these stallions should prove positive.
The Valley Victory line stallion / Chiola Hanover cross has also been
successful with stakes winners such as Continentalvictory, Kyvalley
Road and T K Victor all being bred on this cross.
On this basis mares by
Chiola Hanover should produced good results when mated with Great Success.
