Gotta Go Cullect was an exceptional juvenile – described in the media as an “excitement machine”. He was a superstar in the making.
In his first race start Gotta Go Cullect jogged to victory at Alexandra Park in 1:59.4. His second start was in the Te Awamutu Juvenile Stakes at Cambridge – and what a run it was.
He was caught three and four wide through a 27.4 first quarter and kept pressing forward to get the lead with 1000m to run. He then showed plenty of heart to hold off all challengers to win comfortably in 1:59.8.
It was then back to Auckland for an easy victory in 2:00.8. This was then followed by a career defining performance against a top field in the Group 3 Cardigan
Bay Stakes at Auckland.
He showed superior gate speed to lead, was taken on several times and still had enough ability and stamina to hold off Highview Tommy and Tintin In America in a New Zealand record 1:57 mile rate for the 1700m.
Bred to be a stallion Gotta Go Cullect is by a champion from a champion. His sire Christian Cullen needs no introduction while his dam is the amazing Elect To Live who won many Oaks and an Australian Derby.
- A Record Breaking son of the great Christian Cullen.
- Pedigree, Speed, Heart and Physique - He had it all!
- Out of the former champion Elect To Live, who at stud has already left two NZ Record Holders from her first three foals.
Gotta Go Cullect will stand his first season at stud in 2009/10.
Gotta Go Cullect presents a myriad of interesting options for broodmare owners. Of course he is a son of the great Christian Cullen but he is also out of the former tough filly Elect To Live, who was by Live Or Die.
Christian Cullen himself has crossed very well with many different stallions and we believe that probably Albatross and Falcon Seelster line mares will be most suited to Gotta Go Cullect.
As Gotta Go Cullect is out of a No Nuke line mare we also believe that any No Nukes line mare (barring Live Or Die mares) could be well suited to him. The resulting foal will possess a nicely positioned double up of No Nukes, similar to that of many a successful horse such as Ananz, Ebony Gem, Oztreos, etc.
It is also interesting to note from an Australian perspective that Christian Cullen has left two very nice horses out of Armbro Operative mares in Cullens Crown and Apennyspent. So based on that Cam Fella line mares, especially Armbro Operative mares, could be well suited to Gotta Go Cullect.
Of course we also believe that one of the reasons for the success of the Direct Scooter line downunder has been mares that possessed some of that brilliant old blood like Tar Heel, Scotland and Volomite.
So any mare that possesses that blood could very well be suited to Gotta Go Cullect.
