Cast your mind back to the first 3 months of 2005 and you will understand why Elsu has served 3 incredible books of mares in his first 3 years of stud life.

Those three months saw the Elsu, Geoff Small, David Butcher combination win his second Auckland Cup, demolish the AG Hunter Cup field at Moonee Valley and then become the first horse in 19 years to clean sweep the Inter Dominions.

Such was the dominance of the sharp looking son of Falcon Seelster on the racetrack, whilst he is now passing on those same good looks to his foals.

Horsemen in both countries like what they see in the Elsu yearlings – 81 of them averaged almost $18,000 at the sales in 2008.

Elsu has certainly started his career with a bang, siring a multitude of winners across New Zealand and Australia. It is interesting to see that he is following many of the same patterns that his dad and other Falcon Seelster line stallions have set.

Although Elsu is out of a mare by New York Motoring mare we still expected him to cross well with Most Happy Fella line mares and this cross has not let us down. Mares by No Nukes line stallions and Cam Fella line stallions make particular appeal, however other Most Happy Fella line stallions such as Troublemaker (Elslick), Motu Mister Smooth (Ella Sue), Miles McCool (Matai Mies & Hot Ripple) and My Handsome Fella (Rokewood) are amongst the broodmare credits for Elsu's winners.

Such No Nukes line stallions include Safely Kept, Village Jasper, Live Or Die, Caprock, Badlands Hanover, Ticket To Heaven, Barnett Hanover, Union Guy, Kinney Hanover, Northern Lights, Die Laughing, etc.

Cam Fella line stallions include Fake Left, Armbro Operative, Bettors Delight, Presidential Ball, Precious Bunny, Pacific Fella, Camtastic, Cameleon, Brioso Hanover, Exotic Earl, etc.

The Falcon Seelster / Direct Scooter (and reverse) cross has been dynamite and not surprisingly Elsu has also shown a liking for the Direct Scooter blood. His richest performer, Anvils Best Ever, and his fastest performer, Asbo, are both out of Direct Scooter line mares.

Albatross line mares were always a favourite for Falcon Seelster producing the likes of McArdle, The Falcon Strike and Howard Bromac and so it also with Elsu. Two of his top three performers, Stormy Sirocco and Sinopoli, are bred this way. Albatross line stallions include Soky’s Atom, Vance Hanover, Holmes Hanover, Torado Hanover, Jaguar Spur, etc.

Elsu has multiple doses of the famed mares Spinster and Roya McKinney so any further duplications coming from the mare would be very desirable.

Of course any mare from the famous Roydon Star family makes appeal as it will provide that powerful Rasmussen factor.
