1:47.8 - $1,559,822. Black Horse, Foaled 2005, 15.3 hands.
The great Winston Churchill once said "There is nothing so good for the inside of a man as the outside of a horse."
Well he wasn't around when Shadow Play was racing but he must have been looking at a replica, as Shadow Play is truly a magnificent equine.
However Shadow Play is not coming to Alabar for just his handsome looks - it is his record of 49 starts for 20 wins, 14 placings and stakes of $1,559,822 that is the attraction.
His 3 season racing career was highlighted by 2 World Records:
- 1:48.4 in winning an elimination of the Adios Pace on a 1000 metre track (he also won the Final 7 days later).
- The two heat times of 1:50 and 1:50.2 in winning his elimination and Final of the 2008 Little Brown Jug (on the fame Delaware half mile track)
In addition he placed second to the champion colt Somebeachsomewhere in the $650,000 Messenger Stakes (beaten by a neck) and the $500,000 Breeders Crown Final.
So impressive was Shadow Play's 3yo season, that he was the only colt to take some votes off Somebeachsomewhere in the year end Dan Patch award for 3yo Pacing Colts and Geldings.
Despite a 4yo season that was handicapped with a foot abscess, Shadow Play won the $328,750 US Pacing Championship and finished 2nd in the Breeders Crown Final (race timed in 1:47.2) and during the season he defeated all the big names including Mr Big, Shark Gesture and Art Official.
Shadow Play will stand his first stud season in Australia in 2010/11.
His oldest North American progeny will be foals in 2011.
As a racehorse Shadow play was as tough as he was fast, and he was very fast!
By The Panderosa and out of a Matts Scooter mare, his pedigree is open to breed to a variety of mares.
Being a No Nukes line stallion we expect Shadow Play to work with mares by stallions from the Abercrombie, Direct Scooter and Cam Fella sirelines.
In Australia and New Zealand such Abercrombie line stallions include
Art Major, Astreos, Grinfromeartoear, Artiscape,
Albert Albert, Modern Art, Life Sign, Dream
Away, Pacific Rocket, Fully Loaded,
Peace Of Art, Panorama, Fitch
II, Crouch, Orange Sovereign,
etc.
Direct Scooter line mares would be an interesting prospect for
Shadow Play as he is from a Matts Scooter (by Direct Scooter) mare. The
double up of this very influential stallion could very much be a positive.
The Panderosa has crossed quite well with Cam Fella
line mares. The most successful of these crosses is The Panderosa /
Presidential Ball cross, which augers well for Shadow Play serving Presidential
Ball mares. However other daughters of stallions such as Fake
Left, Armbro Operative, Bettors
Delight, Precious Bunny, Pacific Fella,
Camtastic, Cameleon, Brioso
Hanover and Exotic Earl should also do well
with Shadow Play.
Another dam sire which The Panderosa has clicked very well with is Beach
Towel, with the best horse bred on this cross being Dave
Panlone $692,991. So Shadow Play should suit being bred to both Beach Towel
or Jennas Beach Boy mares.
