Tasmanian Bred three-year-old pacer Villagem produced arguably his best win this season to take out the Group 1 $100,000 Sky Racing Vicbred Super Series 3YO Colts & Geldings final at Moonee Valley last Friday night.
The David and Lisa Miles-trained gelding started second favourite at $4.70 but led all the way to defeat the favourite Living On Fire ($4) by two metres with Queenslander Presidential Lane ($8) four metres astern.
Villagem was bred by Fred and Pauline Barker who have produced some of the best-performed pacers on the national scene these past three years.
Villagem (Village Jasper-Amarillen) is the only progeny of Amarillen to race but she has an unraced two-year-old filly named Pixel Perfect who is yet to race.
Villagem, prepared in the country Victorian town of Monageeta by the Miles team, campaigned in Tasmania as a two-year-old winning a race in Launceston and he was placed in a heat and final of the Dandy Patch (Tasmanian Sires Stakes series).
His only other outing in Tasmania was in this year's Australian Derby in Launceston in which he finished last of 12.
The Barkers have enjoyed a lot of success nationally with their breed in recent years with the ill-fated Cody Maverick (Jennas Beach Boy-Nellirama) who won nine times with two minor placings from only 13 starts before having to be put down after smashing a hock in the final of the Breeders Crown at Bendigo last year.
Cody Maverick clocked a mile rate of 1.58.9 in winning the Betfair Sweepstakes final in Hobart prior to heading to Victoria.
