Gun daughter of Village Jasper dominant
Saturday, 23 May 2009
The good judges that predicted Broadways Best's Nevele R Stud Victoria Oaks win wouldn't be her last at the top level wouldn't have lost any sleep overnight. The Shannon McLean trained star confirmed her status as the horse to beat in next Friday night's $100,000 Group 1 Vicbred Super Series 3YO Fillies Final with a dominant win in last night's first semi final at Moonee Valley.

The gun daughter of Village Jasper sat parked after starting from outside the back row yet still proved too good for a quality field of rivals.

Kissmecatie ($7) was able to pull some ground in the home straight having trailed the $2.40 favourite for the final 1200m, but Broadways Best had enough up her sleeve to ensure she had three metres to spare on the line.

She rated 1:58.5, which included a 57-second last half of the final mile and a 28.4-second last 400m.

Rounding out the placings was $3.20 second elect Elixir, while roughies Macy Lila ($61) and Effective Torque ($29) booked their spots in the final with fourth and fifth-placed finishes.

Also going through as the fastest sixth placegetter was As It Is In Heaven ($7.50) as the time for the opening qualifier was two seconds faster than the second semi.

That was won by Life Inthefastlane ($4.80), who had her nose down at the right time in the more competitive of the two qualifiers.

The John Yeomans-trained filly beat unlucky defending champion Shez Ryleymak ($3.50 fav) by a half head with Queen Of Fire ($15) just a short half-head back in third spot.

They rated 2:00.5 for the mile, which included a 58.3-second final 800m.

Rounding out the top five, and therefore securing their place in the final, were big-race specialist Keppel Bay ($8) and Paris Angel ($6).
