One of Australia's best race mares will be returning home.

The brilliant Fleur De Lil is expected to return 'down under' later this year with a return to racing also being strongly considered.

The Luke McCarthy owned mare has been in North America since April last year racing on some of the world's biggest stages.

The 7yo Armbro Operative mare has racked up seven victories whilst banking more than $US200,000 during her time abroad with the promise of more to come before returning home.

This season alone, Fleur De Lil has raced eleven times for two victories and four third placings whilst earning in excess of $US64,000.

Fleur De Lil scored a dominant victory as favourite last weekend at Yonkers Raceway in New York after racing first over for the majority of the event in a mile of 1.54.2 with rising star Matt Kakaley at the controls.

“I'm keen to bring Lilly home, she's such a good girl and it's likely to be at the end of this year” Luke McCarthy said.

“She will race through until October at this point, the quarantine station is based at Kentucky and that might work to my advantage.”

McCarthy is tempted by racing Fleur De Lil at the famed Red Mile Raceway in Lexington before she would start her quarantine period.

“By racing Lilly at The Red Mile it will give me the opportunity of breaking 1.50 with her, it's a super track and the day time conditions make it conducive for fast times.”

“I would love her to break 1.50 before returning home, she has a 'PB' 51.4 so I think she can better that mark for sure.”

The Red Mile track holds fond memories for both Luke and Andrew McCarthy with career highlights being reached at the famed oval.

Last year Luke partnered star freshman colt All Speed Hanover (Breeders Crown champion, 1.49.4 $660,000) for trainer Noel Daley whilst Andrew took the drive behind trotting freak Muscle Hill (20 wins from 21 starts, $3.26 million) for trainer Greg Peck a year earlier.

McCarthy is keen to put Fleur De Lil back into work upon her arrival home before she embarks on a broodmare career.

“They're at stud for a long time” McCarthy quipped.

“I'm tossing up racing her but I think a race like the Ladyship Mile is well within her grasp, she's good enough but ultimately I will be guided by Lilly herself.”

Currently, Fleur De Lil is racing on the anti bleeding agent Lasix which is a banned substance in Australia.

“That won't be a problem, Mr Feelgood raced on Lasix before being imported too.”

“Once retired, we are spoilt for choice for possible studs to consider for Lilly so we don't have to leave her up there.”

Fleur De Lil is nominated for Yonkers again this weekend where she has drawn post position 3 for trainer Noel Daley.

Meanwhile, millionaire pacer Slipnslide has been officially retired and now living the life of luxury in North America.

“His throat was giving him grief again so it was the perfect time to pull the pin, he doesn't need to prove anything anymore.”

“He's now with Jordan Stratton and his girlfriend, they tell me he makes an excellent riding horse so I'm happy.”

Slipnslide won 37 from 76 starts with 18 minor placings to his credit and earned $1,157,489 in Australia before a very brief North American career.
