Founded in the Adelaide foothills in the 1950’s, Alabar has grown to become a leader in the Standardbred Breeding industry.
Alan Galloway Snr and his wife Barbara started up Alabar as a stud farm in South Australia, with the name derived from the letters of their first names. As a lot of sons do Alan Galloway Jnr inherited his fathers love of horses and helped with the breeding on the farm.
As an 18 year old Galloway jnr wanted to see more of the world, and how the famous horse studs around the world operated. So he embarked on an overseas trip that would take him to America, Canada and Europe and to such stud farms as Blue Chip Farms and Armstrong Bros.
He garnered much knowledge about how the world’s best farms were operating and upon his return to Australia he had the desire to branch out on his own and put his new found knowledge to work.
With the help of his father Galloway Jnr brought the Alabar operation to its current base in Echuca, Victoria in 1979. With his equine knowledge, business nous and marketing flair he took Alabar to a new level and established the standard for studs to follow.
In 2000/1 Alan recognised the growing New Zealand market and Alabar expanded across the Tasman. The Alabar NZ farm is a picturesque property in the North Island overlooking the Manakau Harbour.
Always at the forefront Alabar has stood some of Australia’s finest stallions including Kentucky, Windshield Wiper, Whats Next, Golden Greek and in recent times Fake Left, Safely Kept, Armbro Operative, Presidential Ball and Village Jasper.
The quest for future leading stallions is never ending and we continue to strive to bring you the best stallions in the world.
